ESG Fundamentals Training Series

A Global View of ESG

This session provides a foundational overview of ESG in a business context. We will discuss the market drivers for ESG and why action has become a financial imperative. We will review key regulations. And, we will look at how broader trends like social media and generational shifts are impacting company behavior and expectations.  A strong focus will be placed on how ESG is impacting business value and what the future looks like for ESG leaders and laggards.

Climate and the “E” in ESG

The “E” is the most challenging area of ESG for companies today. Corporate environmental programs are underdeveloped, and expectations are soaring – particularly when it comes to climate. This session will equip leaders to meet their fiduciary duties and set company strategy by creating a base understanding of environmental terms and concepts. Topics include:
  • Defining environmental topics
  • Reviewing regulatory disclosure obligations and legal risks
  • Understanding carbon footprints
  • Setting climate targets
  • Upcoming environmental issues
  • Taking action to improve environmental performance
In addition to the presentation, we will engage in exercises to help attendees develop skills in one of the most difficult subjects - setting and communicating carbon targets.

ESG Regulations for In-house Legal Teams

The ESG landscape is rapidly evolving. ESG is shifting from voluntary to mandatory. In this session, we will review emerging regulations including the:
  • EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)
  • CA Climate Acts
  • International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) standards
  • Proposed SEC Climate Disclosures
We will also dive into the downstream impacts of these ESG regulations – how companies not directly in scope will nevertheless be impacted by the emerging regulations.
By the end of the session, you will be able to anticipate which regulations may apply to your organization over the next 3 years and how ESG regulations will shift the competitive landscape.
